The psychologist is living and practicing in a small rural community. One evening when out for dinner with the family, the psychologist sees a client across the road who appears intoxicated and abusing passers by in an aggressive manner. The psychologist is aware that when the client is intoxicated, they quickly escalate into physically violent behaviour. A breech of confidentiality will occur on the grounds of the psychologist calling the police informing them of the clients risk to others and current state?

Calling police and disclosing the clients history would be a breech of confidentiality, however an alternate course of action would be to engage with the client and maintain confidentiality and the situation quickly de-escalates.
