Research Design helps to conduct a qualitative research study and to find out how birth effects have impact on personality traits and achievement within families. I am going to choose semi-structured interviews as a primary tool for the study. I believe that semi-structured interviews would allow me to gain richer data and reveal the connection between the absence of close friends and the mental state of people better.
Furthermore, I am going to make sampling through the psychological seminars dedicated to birth order effects and personality traits. I am going to recruit ten adult participants that include both people who have had birth order effects in the past and people who could never had a birth order effect. I would inform all the participants about the research details through e-mail or telephone.

Research Design would record all interviews on a Dictaphone and prepare full transcripts. All participants would get the similar sets of questions relate to birth effects and its impact on their personality traits. Most part of the questions would be open-ended to reveal the attitude and feelings of the participants better. One of the possible examples of the questions is “How has birth order effect affect your personality?” The interview would also include the questions related to participant’s demographics, relations with childhood and, career and the personality trait, and thoughts about the future.
Research Design is reliable because one could easily repeat its design and could conduct the similar research under the same circumstances and in the same environment. Moreover, the research is valid: the choice of the participants is random, and the interview concentrates on the revealing of causal relations in the research question.
Research Design answers ethical principles of psychology (APA, 2017). I would inform all members of the sample group about the study and would clarify that their participation is voluntary. I would also inform all participants that they could refuse to answer questions that they find uncomfortable and guarantee confidentiality and anonymity of the data. I would tell each of the participants about the length of the interview and would ask the permission to record the interview on the Dictaphone.
