• You may ask Appointment schedulers should have the possibility to track over time the quantity of reschedules and failure to follow-up a patient has had. Computer scheduling has the possibility to track this information so that it is accessible to the scheduler when the patient calls to abrogation, reschedule, or make an appointment. In this way, the healthcare provider can be warned that the patient has not returned at the right time.
• Timetable follow-up appointments for patients prior to the patient’s leaving the office. If the patient says he/she will call later, mention it in the patient record. Persuade the patient, if possible, to make the appointment prior to leaving, even though the patient may need to reschedule later.
• Evolve an office procedure for follow-up. Some offices have a permanent policy for follow-up on certain classes of patient (for instance all postop patients, all patients appointed for follow-up of abnormal Pap Tests, all patients on anticoagulants).
